Library OpeningRibblesdale’s new Learning Resource Centre & Library was officially opened on Thursday 11th December by Jo Delaney, author of the highly popular ‘Wardstone Chronicles’ series of novels.

Over forty young people attended the event, including Book Club members, Student Librarians and others who have read some of Jo’s books, together with Mrs Hargreaves (Chair of the Governors), Mr Smith and members of the Staff Reading Group.

Everyone enjoyed drinks and mince pies whilst Jo chatted with pupils, before he officially unveiled a plaque to mark the occasion.

He then answered questions about his work as an author, the writing process and the inspiration behind his Wardstone Chronicles series, before signing people’s copies of the books.

It was especially good to welcome Jo in the new LRC as 2008 has been National Year of Reading, and his first Wardstone title, ‘The Spook’s Apprentice’, has been the ‘Lancashire Reads’ book, chosen by Lancashire Libraries, to mark the occasion.

Set in Lancashire, The Spook’s Apprentice is about Thomas Ward, the seventh son of a seventh son who has been apprenticed to the local Spook (exorcist) and his subsequent adventures dealing with boggarts, witches and the like.
