A group of parents met in the Juice Bar to hear an informative talk from PC Walsh on Online Safety. Following a warming coffee, chat and placing a large food order at the local Chinese takeaway, we began the evening by watching two DVD’s warning of the dangers of online predators and how they groom teenagers (both girls and boys). The DVD’s were issued by the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP) which has been set up by the government to tackle this issue. It was alarming to see how easily predators can access our young people via social networks and glean personal details from them. A lively discussion then followed as we learnt from each other and PC’s Walsh and Towler how best to tackle this issue and the measures we can take to lower the risk of this happening to our children. Most internet service providers have information on this issue and can advise on putting parental controls on your PC’s. PC Walsh distributed a leaflet from Lancashire Constabulary entitled Internet Safety and a sheet of information from CEOP.
As we tucked into our delicious takeaway food we continued to discuss issues that are affecting our young people and how best we can address the problems we face as parents.

Our next meeting will be on Thursday 30th April at 7pm at Clitheroe Conservative Club, Castle Street – food and wine will be available.
