Prefects

At Ribblesdale we feel that in order to improve our pupils we encourage the ones with the correct skills to become prefects.  In upper school prefects are from year 11 and in lower school junior prefects are selected from year 9.

Have a look at this year's prefects.

Upper School Prefects

Upper school prefects are selected at the end of year 10 when year 11 take their study leave.  Year 10 pupils that wish to become a prefect have to submit an application form and a letter of application.  They also need to receive the recommendation of all the subject teachers in order to become a prefect.

Upper school prefects:

  • will be responsible for “manning” a duty point during selected breaks and lunchtimes.
  • will assist with Assemblies.
  • will assist Mrs Parkes (Achievement Co-ordinator) in organising lunchtime events in the Drama Complex.
  • will support the school in any out of hour’s activities.
  • will assist in trying to enhance the role of the prefect by attending meetings with Mrs Parkes (Achievement Co-ordinator)
  • will attend a training morning.

Junior Prefects

Junior prefects are recommended by their form tutors and each tutor group in lower school will have at least one junior prefect.  The profiles of pupils are used in the selection process as well as school reports and interim grades.

Year 9 prefects are expected to:

  • assist the tutor in the form room and set an example to other lower school pupils.
  • set up lunchtime activities for their group.
  • take over on duty points when year 10 are on Work Experience.
  • assist with Assemblies.
  • attend a training morning.

As a reward for the good work that the school prefects do and there commitment to the school, they are all given the opportunity to go on a trip at the end of the year.  This has taken place to a number of places including Alton Towers and Light water Valley.
