The Edexcel BTEC first award in Performing Arts has been designed to provide an engaging and stimulating introduction to the world of Performing Arts. The qualification builds on learning from KS3 for those who may wish to develop their skills in acting, singing and dancing and explore a more creative course in KS4 . It also provides a good foundation to Performing Arts for pupils in post 16 education. The course comprises of two core units and a specialist unit.
The two core units are made up of an INDIVIDUAL SHOW CASE which is marked externally, and PREPARATION, PERFORMANCE and PRODUCTION, which is marked internally and moderated. This second unit will involve pupils taking part in an industry styled, audition process, where they research and make preparations for a specific job/audition in the performing arts, delivering a live performance as well as demonstrating performance skills and techniques. The specialist unit which will be studied is MUSICAL THEATRE, enabling learners to combine acting, singing and dancing skills in the preparation of a final musical theatre work.
